What we do

Fair trade wedding rings

If you're looking for wedding bands with a heart, look no further.

Silverchilli is a fair trade jewellery business. We work with jewellery producers who get a raw deal from having to sell their products in a market place where the retailers hold all the power.

We ensure that our skilled silversmiths make a good living from their jewellery and offer fair trade loans to help expand their businesses at low risk.

We also reinvest our profits back into community projects in Mexico. All of our wedding rings are made by a female silversmith.

Silverchilli wedding rings represent both your love for each other and a fair deal for our silversmiths in Mexico.

Ethical Action

Fair trade wedding bands
Silverchilli's fair trade terms relate to our work with the silversmiths in Mexico who are the next in line to get a raw deal from the retailers and buyers that they are forced to do business with.

Silverchilli.com applies Fair Trade ethics to our work in a number of ways:

  • We pay 50% in advance for all the orders to help fund raw materials, so the silversmiths are never out of pocket, and then we pay the remaining 50% immediately on delivery
  • We design the products in collaboration with the Silversmiths and we pay a design royalty when production moves to a different Silversmith
  • We work with silversmiths who belong to a Union or a Co-operative
  • Our policy is to return 95% of our profits to the communities we work with. This is invested in general development of communities in projects ranging from health to education, in order to build quality of life for the whole communities

A few ways we're trying to make a difference

Recycling

Recycles Re-using packaging that is sent to us by our suppliers. Printing all our business stationary on recycled paper & using PDFs wherever possible. Shredding our waste paper and turning it into packaging.

Reducing carbon footprint

Reducing carbon footprint Planting trees to off-set the carbon of our air deliveries from Mexico.

Supporting fair trade

Fair trade products We pay our silversmiths 50% in advance for the raw materials so they are never out of pocket. Our policy is to return 95% of our profits to the communities we work with. We are a member of BAFTS – The British Association of Fair Trade Shops.

Supporting / working with a community / social project

Support a community or social project We are always working with the local communities in Mexico. Each year we invest in a social project chosen by one of the groups we work with.

We have been involved in supplying spectacles to a group of women who make our hand embroidered jewellery pouches.

In response to a request from one of our silversmiths for us to get involved in helping Josue Mirlo Primary School in the suburbs of Mexico City get back on its feet after years of under resourcing, we were able to supply them with some laptops.
