What we do
Penrhos is a gem of an old manor farm buried in the half-tamed border country between Herefordshire and Wales. It is the perfect setting for your green wedding.
Seasonal, organic food is at the heart of Penrhos. Wedding banquets are prepared in the award-winning kitchen by chef/nutritionist Daphne Lambert. Each menu is individually created during consultation with Daphne.
Foods that are connected with passion, love and marriage are a strong inspiration: in spring, the first green shoots of asparagus and the yellow primrose flower, in summer, red roses, strawberries and sweet ripe peaches, in mellow autumn the season brings figs, honey and the richness of saffron and in winter, warming spices of ginger, cardamom and nutmeg.
For your wedding celebrations you have exclusive use of the whole of Penrhos Court. This includes the Elizabethan room, Medieval Cruck Hall, Courtyard, Byre and 15 bedrooms and 2 apartments. We hold a civil ceremony licence so the entire wedding can take place at Penrhos. Your wedding becomes a house party for your family and friends with preparations the day before, the ceremony, photographs, drinks, the banquet then a party in the evening and breakfast the next morning. Penrhos is perfect for weddings.
Ethical action
Our wedding breakfasts are made with only the best seasonal, local organic food and wedding cakes are 100% organic.
We use only British grown, seasonal and where possible organic flowers for displays and bouquets. We source local petal confetti that is naturally dried at a wonderful farm in the Vale of Evesham. They supply us with petals and buds in many colours.
We source recycled paper napkins and use organic linen table cloths and encourage the use of environmentally friendly fabrics such as organic hemp, cotton or silk.
Recycled paper invitations are handmade and hand dyed. In place of polluting heavy metal dyes natural dyes are used such as vegetables or clays.
In the hotel all linen and bath towels are 100% organic cotton, every complimentary gift is sourced from environmentally aware companies such as Neal’s Yard and Duchy Originals and all cleaning and laundering products are eco-friendly.
The hotel boasts fifteen spacious, light rooms and two self catering apartments that are all decorated using environmentally friendly natural paints.
Our photographers use only digital cameras to minimise the use of polluting chemicals in development.
Wedding gifts can include planting trees or donations to suitable charitie. We also have a green wedding list catalogue that sells seedlings, organic linen and homewares.

A few ways we're trying to make a difference
Recycling
All waste from the wedding day is recycled either as compost for the hotel garden, helped by our wormeries, or food for the chickens. Due to location it is difficult to source business recycling, we do however recycle all glass and use returnables. We source recycled paper napkins and recycled paper invitations – hand made and hand dyed.
Reducing carbon footprint
We suggest environmental travel arrangements, duel fuel cars, horse drawn or shared travel, minimal travel once at the venue because it all happens in one setting. We have an LPG heating system.
Water conservation
Yes
Using organic products
All Penrhos Products are organic certified and Penrhos is a Soil Association certified hotel and restaurant.
Supporting local producers
Our food is sourced from local suppliers: Herefordshire dairy, Welsh veg supplier, local eggs, fish from Cornwall. Petal confetti comes from a local farm in the Vale of Evesham.
Using cruelty-free products
Yes
Supporting fair trade
Where we can’t source locally, we use Infinity foods (fair trade).
Supporting / working with a charity
We help run The Penrhos Trust, a charity established to rescue historic farm buildings that are in danger of becoming lost, and revive them with ecological and organic food businesses. It maintains a register of farm buildings that are in danger. The Trust also runs seminars, meetings, special events and courses to share experience of traditional buildings methods and help teach and promote the benefits of traditional farming and food production.
Supporting / working with a community / social project
Yes - The Penrhos Trust also involves the local community.
Vegetarian / vegan
Mainly vegetarian or vegan with chicken or fish options.
Other things we do
We also offer courses on Food & Health and Organic Nutrition.
