Organic Buffet - organic caterers
Name: Vincent Charles
Tell us a bit about yourself and your business
My name is Vincent, I'm French and I have been living in this country for the last 15 years. Organic Buffet started 4-5 years ago supplying organic food to corporate lunches and then moving on to weddings and private functions. Organic Buffet is registered to the foodservice and organic catering code of practice of the Soil Association.
What or who inspires you?
Food is a big part of life in France. Family and friends gathering around the table brings back great memories. We were getting food from the local market twice a week and had local cheeses from the old lady next door. This is where organic means natural and isn't simply marketing hype.
What do you enjoy most about running your business?
From the first email enquiring about catering for a wedding to the big day itself. The work behind it, preparation, decoration, choice of food, colours, themes. It's great to see everything coming together.
What is the most challenging aspect?
It's coming now. Competition....!
What do you feel you bring to an ethical wedding?
The food, putting in the ground work with local suppliers, a fair price, forget the corkage charge (unfair). I'm an organic caterer but it doesn't mean that I grow my own wheat in my back garden (as I have been asked) or slaughter the pig myself! It's a business after all but we can do business in an ethical way.
How do you see the wedding industry changing over the next five years (if at all)?
Hopefully everybody involved will stay focussed as to what organic food should be and that the standards will remain high, carrying the concept and philosophy forward - and keeping the cowboys out of the game!
