The heartfelt project - ethical wedding favours

The heartfelt project - ethical wedding favours

A tragic event led to Julie setting up The heartfelt project as a way of giving a voice to women from rural communities in South Africa.

10 women are now working on the project, creating hand-sewn individual wedding favours from felt, using beading and traditional crafts

The women are empowered by their work, which contributes a small donation to an HIV/AIDS & TB charity within the local community, as well as helping to feed and clothe the Heartfelt ladies and their families.

Gants Mill - green wedding venue

Gants Mill - green wedding venue

Gants Mill is the perfect green wedding venue. A family run 50 acre sheep farm with a wonderful working watermill, the history of the Mill goes back to before the Conquest, and it is still used to grind barley for the sheep and show to visitors.

The Mill has been producing hydro electricity since 2004 - feeding clean energy straight into the National Grid and giving Gants Mill a virtually non-existent carbon footprint.

The Mill has been in the family for years and the aim is to keep the place going for generations to come. Offering the Mill as a green wedding venue was a natural choice for the family, as it complements existing activities and can help maintain the wonderful Mill.

It is a magical place. Most visitors quickly fall in love with the beautiful surroundings, but many also come to share the family's enthusiasm for ensuring the Mill remains sustainable.

Swoon Wedding Gowns - Once worn designer wedding dresses

Swoon Wedding Gowns - Once worn designer wedding dresses

Deborah Kidd was inspired to start Swoon Wedding Gowns after her own wedding just a few years ago. Not one for throw away fashion, she didn't see why her wedding dress should be a 'one wear only' gown. But her search for secondhand gowns was not all she hoped it would be so she set up Swoon to give brides prepared to make a positive ethical choice about something as important as a wedding gown the same lovely experience of a pleasant studio and comfortable surroundings while choosing a dress as those who buy new.

Rutie Stranack set up Fruto del Espiritu selling exotic fruit purées after living in Colombia for 18 months.  While there she loved visiting the juice bars to try out all the incredible exotic fruits, and realised that many of them - if they were known and available in the UK - could provide a viable and sustainable alternative for Colombian farmers.

While the bride and groom drink to the happiest day of their lives with a Fruto del Espiritu cocktail, the drink they are holding offers hope to displaced families.

Great Escape Classic Car Hire

Great Escape Classic Car Hire

Graham Eason runs Great Escape Classic Car Hire in Worcestershire, providing self drive classic cars - coupes, convertibles and saloons - for weekends and weddings across the UK.

One of the highlights of his work is meeting the couples and seeing the smiles on their faces when they realise that they're about to drive a car they've sometimes dreamt of driving since childhood.

Graham acknowledges the challenge in balancing economic and ethical demands.  He believes that customers should have the option to use a classic car for their wedding but in doing so there is a responsibility to the environment. Carbon emissions from every hire are offset.
