Challenge Ethical Weddings

Eco Indian wedding caterer in London

The challenge:

"This one is very specific, but I am Indian and eco-conscious, as is my intended. We would really like to have a traditional style North Indian menu from our caterers (not made with Halal meat as many of the guests would not be permitted to eat it then) but are finding it difficult.

All I've found so far are The Asian Grub Foundation, but their menu and services are pretty limited. They would need to be based in London or close by.

Can you help please?!

About Kiran
"I am of Indian origin and my partner is English. We are in the very early stages of organising so are just trying to see how eco-friendly and ethical we can make our wedding - but like everyone we need to keep costs down as much as possible (boo!)."

How we tackled it:

Hi Kiran,

We've had a couple of good suggestions from Jen Marsden, author of 'The Green Guide for Weddings' and one of our Ethical Weddings Experts. She says:

'Only last week I went to Malabar Restaurant in Notting Hill Gate's Uxbridge Street. They served some fabulous Indian canapés and looked to have a wonderful range of food - I am going back to try out their mouthwatering menu in full very soon, particularly as they serve my favourite Freedom organic lager and seemed to very supportive of the ‘Fairtrade in the Frame' exhibition that they were hosting for Liv and Piccalilly (hence my visit). I would recommend getting in touch with them as I'm sure they would be sympathetic to requests! Unlike most Indian food restaurants these days, their upmarket and most authentic nature means they refuse to use artificial colours. (Oh and Kate Moss has been spotted eating there too!)

You may also wish to try the highly praised and fairly well-known Nayaab organic Indian restaurant based in Fulham and see if they can help out. And there is a South Indian organic and vegetarian restaurant in Stoke Newington called Rasa South (tel: 0207 249 0344), although I've yet to try it out!'

Let us know how you get on with these.

Warm wishes,
