Who are we?

Ethical Weddings was set up by Katie and Jamie Fewings when planning their own 2005 wedding.  With the happy event behind them, it has been full steam ahead developing the website.  Now based in Worthing, West Sussex (following stints in Sheffield, Barcelona, travelling, and London) they intend to stay within sight of the sea while helping brides and grooms around the world to plan the ethical wedding of their dreams!

Katie Fewings

As her Mum will tell you, Katie has always had a strong sense of what’s fair and what’s not fair. Applying this to the planning of her wedding (rather than whether or not she should put her toys away!) the idea for Ethical Weddings emerged.

Of the many ideas she has had over the years about how things could be done differently, this is the one that wouldn’t go away.

Katie studied Modern Languages at Sheffield University, which led to a spell teaching English in Barcelona and, back in the UK, to volunteering with the Sheffield Chilean Association, Guatemala Solidarity Network and a London refugee mentoring programme.

Sheffield University was also responsible for bringing her together with the lovely Jamie (below) without whom Ethical Weddings would never have happened!

Katie currently divides her time between Ethical Weddings and her work as Online Communications Coordinator for the charity, Action for Market Towns.

Jamie Fewings

As an assistant architect working in Brighton, Jamie’s primary concern is with the ‘look and feel’ of the website. If that’s ok, he’s happy!

After meeting Katie at Sheffield University, Jamie was swept away on a wave of ethical dilemmas that left him reeling…but after picking himself up and dusting himself off (and travelling around the world for a year) he was ready to enter the fray of ethical wedding planning, offering Katie endless support and cups of Fairtrade tea, while allowing her to monopolise the computer.

Since making the fair trade organic wedding cake for their April 2005 wedding, Jamie has also become resident cake maker – his Bakewell is particularly recommended!
